CPTN/TBI Ice Hockey Conditioning Specialist (IHCS)

This is a unique strength and conditioning Certification program designed for one of the fastest team sport in the world. Whether you are a Personal Trainer or a hockey specialist this course will assist you to improve your theory and practical / applied knowledge in the area of specific conditioning for ice hockey. The knowledge you attain is certain to change your perspective of specific development of speed, power and endurance for hockey.

You will learn the following:

  • Roll of energy systems training in hockey and their importance in designing training programs in general, and speed, strength, and power in particular
  • Important training concept of planning-periodization and how to plan a training session, micro-cycle and annual plan to ensure that peak performance will be achieved prior to the beginning of league games
  • How to periodize and plan the hockey-specific motor abilities of speed, strength, power and endurance

Member Pre-Requisites:

  • Current CPTN Membership
  • Successful completion of the SCE Quiz
  • Personal Trainer Certification (i.e. CPTN-CPT / ACE-CPT, etc.)
  • Professional liability insurance

Non-Member Pre-Requisites:

  • University degree or Dilpoma in a Health Science (Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, etc) or Certification as an Exercise Specialist, CSCS, or Certified Personal Trainer

Take Home Testing Information:

To successfully obtain the IHCS Certification you must achieve 70% or more on all components of the Examination. The maximum time allowed to complete this exam is 6 months from date of purchase. This ice-hockey-specific Examination will test your strength and conditioning knowledge via practical knowledge (case studies), planning skills (micro-cycle plans, annual plans) and the methodology of developing the dominant motor abilities for hockey.
