CPTN/TBI Periodization Planning Specialist (P-PS)
The Periodization-Planning Specialist (P-PS) education program is intended to enhance the knowledge of coaches, Trainers and athletes who are actively involved in the world of fitness and sport. Great emphasis will be placed on how to apply scientific principles to meet your client's needs.
You will learn the following:
- Short-term and long-term planning, peaking and regeneration
- The design of microcycles, macrocycles and annual plans
- Altering energy systems to meet your client's needs
- Designing programs for the preparatory, competitive and transition phases
- Quantifying training for optimal physiological response
- Interrelating physical, technical and tactical training
- Breaking down the physiological requirements of a sport or movement and creating the appropriate training methods to maximize adaptation
Member Pre-Requisites:
- Current CPTN Membership
- Successful completion of the P-PS Quiz
- Personal Trainer Certification (i.e. CPTN-CPT / ACE-CPT, etc.)
- Professional liability insurance
Non-Member Pre-Requisites:
- University degree or Dilpoma in a Health Science (Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, etc) or Certification as an Exercise Specialist, CSCS, or Certified Personal Trainer

Take Home Testing Information:
To successfully obtain the P-PS Certification, you must achieve 70% or more on all components. The maximum time allowed to complete this exam is 6 months from date of purchase.
1. Practical Knowledge Assignments
The first part challenges your knowledge on planning for the preparatory, competitive and transition phases for individual and team sports. The second part requires you to design microcycles for a sport or client situation of your choice. Use this practical section to design a program for a real-life situation.
2. Annual Plan
This section puts a final stamp on your planning knowledge. You must successfully create an annual plan for a given sport. You will be graded on your accuracy, creativity and ingenuity as a “Planning Specialist.” You will be expected to quantify and qualify the ergogenesis of the sport along with parameters such as volume, intensity, regeneration and physical / technical / tactical / psychological preparation.
