The Art and Science of Personal Training Workshop
Description
Interested in becoming a Personal Trainer but unsure of where to start? Have what it takes to be a good Trainer but lack the foundational education? Engage in The Art and Science of Personal Training course to build confidence for the CPTN Personal Trainer Certification. This Workshop is held on both weekends listed.
The following topics will be discussed:
- personal training, professionalism, exercise physiology, biomechanics & applied physiology.
- health screening, cardio-respiratory fitness, muscle conditioning, flexibility training & programming for the healthy adult.
- modifications for health conditions, persons with disabilities, weight management and musculoskeletal injuries
- communication skills, teaching techniques, safety guidelines, legal liability issues and professional responsibilities.
Recommended Supplemental Workshops:
- Resistance Training Course, or equivalent

- Notebooks, pen, pencil, paper etc...
Note: This course includes The Art and Science of Personal Training (Second Edition) manual for those who registered for standard Membership and planned on purchasing the manual as a separate item. We now feature a special Membership registration offer including the manual for those that do not wish to register for this Workshop.
Course Instructors

Paul Aspinall, BPE, MES, CPTN-CPT
Paul is the Director of Personal Training for Mayfair Racquet and Fitness Clubs, is a CPTN Certified Personal Trainer, CPTN Practical Assessor, and Course Conductor. He currently teaches Program Design at Seneca College and lectures at various corporations and facilities in Toronto. His educational background includes a degree in Physical Education with a major in Athletic Therapy, and a diploma in Fitness and Lifestyle Management from George Brown College. Michelle Becker, B.Sc., CPTN-CPT
Michelle graduated from the University of Guelph with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Human Kinetics and Ergonomics. Michelle is also a Certified Personal Trainer and teaches the National Certification Course for Personal Trainers. Michelle provides the full spectrum of corporate wellness service as a qualified rehabilitation, ergonomics and fitness specialist. With over 10 years of experience, Michelle works with individuals and companies to maximize their productivity through education, emphasizing exercise, nutrition and ergonomics. She has worked with such companies as TD Bank, Brewers Retail, Panasonic, PLASP, ParaMed and Silver Buds Florist.

Jeff Boris, BPHE, CPTN-CPT.M
An avid fitness enthusiast, wellness advocate and Personal Trainer for over 14 years, Jeff Boris' expertise is sought after as a Trainer of Trainers with the Certified Professional Trainers Network, and the Community Education Coordinator for the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging. Through his global company, The Wellness Source, Jeff supports health and fitness professionals with the latest research and technologies in personal wellness and performance.

Dawnelle Hawes, B.A., B.Kin., MEd., CPTN-CPT.M.
Dawnelle Hawes has been, at different times, a high school physical education teacher and coach, fitness director, Personal Trainer, group fitness instructor, international gymnastics judge, published author, and presenter. Her graduate degree in Education has a focus on adult learning. Over the past 10 years, she has taught fitness and personal training-related courses at Ryerson University and Humber College in Toronto, and at Mohawk College in Hamilton. Dawnelle has been a Member of various national and regional committees, one of which was the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology. She is past Communications Chair and current Chair of Professional Development for the Certified Professional Trainer's Network.
