If you do not pass the theory portion of a certification exam, you can retake it. Candidates are invited to take the "Theory Exam Rewrite" – typically after waiting at least 24 hours from the previous attempt.

To prepare properly for a retake, CPTN recommends reviewing the sections where your score was lowest before attempting a rewrite.

For the practical assessment, you must achieve a grade of 75% or higher in each major component to pass. If you don't meet the standard, CPTN will outline what is required to continue pursuing the certification designation – which may include retesting certain components.

Theory Exam: 120 multiple-choice questions (covering anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, program design, etc.), 180 minutes / 3 hours, requiring a minimum grade of 75% to pass.

No – First Aid and CPR/AED certification is not required merely to sit for the theory or practical exam.

However – final certification will not be issued until valid, current proof of First Aid and CPR/AED certification is submitted (along with any other required documentation).

Yes – CPTN allows you to retake the CPTN-CPT Theory Exam if you fail.
